Let
the Sun Shine In

What
do most people think of when they think of kitchen design?
First,
the obvious considerations - the utilitarian purpose of the space.
They think of the tasks that take place and the appliances
that
help them achieve these tasks - range, refrigerator, etc.
Next
would be storage space - the pantry and kitchen cabinets. How
much you need and the style and colors you desire. Since the
kitchen is often a popular gathering and entertaining area you will
usually consider how these factors will affect your design.
There is another area in kitchen design you may not want to overlook.
Maybe
you remember your mom's kitchen; the one fairly small window
over the kitchen sink where she cleaned up after the family dinner.
Today's kitchen windows are seeing a new direction in letting the
outside in and if your kitchen design has the room it can be an
exciting and vista-capturing place. If your kitchen design
includes having the sink on an outside wall, give some thought to
sacrificing a couple wall cabinets and open that space up to light and
a less confining feeling.
Garden
windows have long been popular over a kitchen sink and is a good place
to grow your own supply of fresh herbs. Take this idea to the
next level by designing into your plan a small bay window.
This
will not only give you more light and a better view but will
allow you to grow more herbs for your cooking needs.
